To Enter:
Email a full body photo and/or a close-up photo of you and your significant other to angelitaphoto@gmail.com along with your wedding anniversary date or your wedding date this coming 2012. Ideally, you may be dressed in the outfit(s) you plan on wearing if you win this contest (or any props). Once your photos are submitted, I will post it as soon as possible to a folder on my facebook fanpage under the photo gallery named 'Contestant couples of 2012'. The couple with the most 'likes' for the cutest, hottest, or the most adorable couple wins this contest. Voting or 'liking' will be eligible from the time it is posted. The end of the voting period is January 31, 2012 at 11:59pm eastern time. You MUST be available on February 14 2012 between 4-6pm for this couples session. This shoot is for two(2) people only. Props permitted. Location for the photo session will be within Fayetteville, Hope Mills, or Fort Bragg, NC. We're open to suggestion.

Each public vote counts as 1 point. On the final day, I will assign 5 judges that are not closely related or known to any of the contestants, thus eliminating any bias in the vote. The votes of these 5 judges will account for 10 points each.

Criteria:

1. You must be married or have a set wedding date that will occur within 2012.
2. Print and publication rights will be provided to the photographer, Angelita Ballada Esparar, and any trustees upon the submission of your photo for the contest.
3. Any submissions that are provocative or inappropriate will be eliminated from the contest.
4. Again, you and your significant other must be available on February 14 between 4-6pm in Fayetteville, Hope Mills, or Fort Bragg, NC.
5. Your significant other must know that you are participating in this contest.
6. There must be no bribing of husband to come to this shoot (or vice versa).
7. You and your significant other must come happy, excited, and open to creativity for this shoot.

The GRAND PRIZE winner will receive:
1. 90-120 minute photo session
2. Disc with all their photos and print rights (bulk amount)
3. A 1 year viewing and ordering gallery that can be shared with family and friends.
4. 30-5x7's

I had a great time shooting this winter, especially at the Cape Fear Botanical Garden. They really transformed their location after the addition of the Pavilion this year. There's so much to do, and so many variations to shoot with the changing and falling leaves. The weather is particularly perfect for shooting despite the winter months of November and December. I'm sure you've experienced the unusual warm days when it's supposed to be cold...but we took full advantage of it! Thank you to my hubby Jerome Esparar for helping me with all these sessions...I couldn't have made all the young wandering eyes look at me at the same time without you.

Every winter I spare time to photograph some kids and families in addition to the brides and couples for the holidays. That being said, I photographed the Butler family and their kids a few weeks ago...and I just had to share a few. Enjoy!

Oh dear, it's been almost 3 months since I left a note in here. I guess I have a lot of catching up to do. I've been to places, and I've met so many new people. It's becoming quite difficult to remember people's names. This blog will be a long one to make up for the lost time. I'll do my best to make it entertaining...

February Highlights. I did some maternity sessions. I took pictures of an old-coworker, Megan and also of Audrelle who does hair and make-up at the Flawless visions salon. I believe I mentioned her several times. We've worked together on some boudoir events:

I also went to visit my family in Atlanta. It was Melody's, my youngest niece, 2nd birthday. She's so adorable! These girls are growing way too fast.

March Highlights. I took pictures of the Albaeck family again. It's always nice to see previous clients come back over the years. Kids grow too fast, or maybe I'm just getting older.

I also traveled with Ashleigh and Chuck (May 21, 2011 Wedding) to UNC Chapel Hill for their engagement session. It's nice to have a new environment and a new backdrop once in a while. Their wedding is already next week! This is so exciting. I wish I can also show off the bridal pictures we did at the Cape Fear Botanical Gardens, but I'll have to wait a little bit. Evelyn and Jordan's wedding also took place this month. It was very small, but also one of the nicest intimate weddings I've been to. Such a *hot* couple.

Another highlight, the black tie gala at the Cape Fear Botanical Garden's new building. It was quite overwhelming to see all the contributor's to the new addition, and to be the first photographer to set foot and snap pictures at this huge venue. All the big people of this city were there. It was so beautiful! They had a live band, excellent food, and a great decorator. If you plan on having 300+ guests at your wedding, I think this is the biggest and nicest venue for you.

Sarah's Trash the Dress Session. Sarah is getting married on September 10. Unfortunately I can't take her wedding pictures, because I was already booked for that date. I still needed to take her pictures somehow. So, we decided to promote a *Trash the Dress* session. Trash the dress sessions aren't quite popular in the east, yet, but I am trying to get it here. Basically, it's a relaxed session after the wedding that you can take in a location of your preference with or without the groom. We picked her backyard for this shoot to add a little character. However, you can do this anywhere...at the beach, on a farm, at the garden, at a carnival, on an open field. It's also a great way to save wedding-day- picture time and the stress that comes with it. April Highlights. Couple's month! The weather was beautiful, the flowers were blooming, and love is floating in the air. Here are a few couples I photographed during the month of April. Of course, you can find more on my facebook. I also plan on adding some to the website.

And then I photographed Rachel and Jason Stapleton's wedding in Pinehurst/Vass, NC. It was so nice!! The church was grande, the reception was outstanding, and the dancing was ...what they called "so much fun!" Another surprise: President Jimmy Carter was there. I had no idea he would be there. It was really an honor to photograph a wedding with a special guest. Eitherway, Rachel and Jason were still the stars of the day.

Income Tax Due Date= My Birthday. Another year older. Another year wiser. Thank you everyone for the million greetings on facebook.

Once a year, my family and I also travel for a week. This year, we went to DC for the cherry blossom festival, Niagara Falls, Toronto, and New York.

May Highlights. The month isn't over, but I'd still like to give you a little something.

Robyn and John: What can I say,? You two are a happy couple, and I am so glad to have captured this special day. While I was going through the photos, all I was seeing were smiles. It was hard narrowing down the photos and deciding which smile is better than the other.

I'm so glad Jerome was able to assist me during this event. Thank you. :) Did I mention he just graduated? I'm so proud of him...

Finally...here are Bobby and Cheryl's Engagement photos. They were so much fun! It's too bad they're getting married in Washington. Anyways, I'm so happy for them. Washington is such a beautiful place to get married. Atleast I had the honors of taking their engagement photos (on the day of the superbowl)..but it was definitely worth it. I was able to capture so many great things...Don't you love her hair? She works at the Tangles salon off of Raeford Rd across Harris Teeter.

On a personal note...as I'm writing this blog I have a wrap around my head with an ice pack. I just had my wisdom teeth extracted. I am unable to speak properly without sounding "drunk".

Audrelle is having a baby girl. I met her while working with Carmen Johnson at the Flawless Vision Salon. They are both very good hair stylists and make up artists and do everything from appointments to bridal make overs. We started working together at the end of '09 getting some ladies hair, make-up, and pictures taken for their special ones (boudoir/pinup). By the way, did I tell you I'm coming out with a new boudoir website--new pictures and prices! Anyways, I love their work and how they make my clients feel comfortable before I shoot their glamour or boudoir session.

This past week I was able to work with her again at my studio downtown. We did a few outside as well, but the wind was so strong. I hope it calms down a little bit more next week, but overall...I love the weather outside. Do you? Summer is just right around the corner and this is the BEST weather to shoot in. Flight Back Home

I had the opportunity to capture the father of a family of 6 come home. This is the first time I've done this, and I have to admit, it was very heartwarming. The four kids, Chris, Nick, Ben, and Lexie, had no idea who was coming home. Their mom pretended their grandparents were arriving at the airport, but the father who has been deployed for the past 8 months was coming home to see his children and wife for the holidays. When their dad walked towards them from the terminal, a few of the kids stood still, frozen, and needed a second to register in their minds that it was their dad in front of them. Their daughter, Lexie, ran straight towards him while calling him out with joy. It was quite a surprise to them.

This year has been a long and difficult one. Thankfully, it's coming to an end and we're still blessed with health and the presence of those who care for us. Hopefully, we can all make our best out of the upcoming 2011. I'm looking forward to seeing new clients, repeat clients, and all the scheduled weddings I have for next year. It will be an adventure, a challenge, a different experience, and hopefully a new memory for each event I attend. Thanks everyone!

Lauren and Steven's Wedding

This is probably one of the biggest churches I've photographed at. The sanctuary is photographer heaven. Windows coming from both sides that fill up the sanctuary. Quite beautiful, I must say.

Highlight of the wedding? Lauren is so cute. When she was diving into her dress while her bridesmaids were helping her out, she said "that was fun! let's do it again!" She definitely looked like a princess and had a beautiful -let-me-declare- gorgeous dress.

Cecil and Kayla had a really beautiful wedding in May. They used a lot of pinks, and purples. I love bright colors and fun entourages. This is probably one of the funnest male entourage that I ever photographed, and of course, everyone at the wedding was really sweet. I'm glad that I have several weddings lined up in Pembroke and Lumberton for the year 2011.

Lindsay & Nick: Couple's Session

I had the pleasure to photograph Lindsay and Nick before a military ball. The session took place at the Cape Fear Botanical Garden off of Eastern Blvd, Fayetteville. I have to say, this is probably one of the best times in the year to take pictures. The foliage is changing colors, flowers are still out, and the weather is just perfect. I definitely will not forget this couple. Lindsay was very beautiful, and Nick is,well, unbelievably capable of posing for the pictures. He is in the 82nd Airborne, and just got back from Afghanistan in March after stepping on a bomb and loosing his left foot. They've been in DC doing rehabilitation for his leg, and luckily he's been walking since May! Kudos. Enjoy the photos...

During my weekend getaway, I was able to work with Rose. We hit the beach, and we took a few photos at the aloft hotel. That place is nice! Wished they had one in Fayetteville. It was definitely something I needed to get rid of the stresses in life. Hopefully I'll come back on my feet soon and in tip-top "photo-mode" condition.

The flowers and sunflowers were just growing nicely at the farm. Faye went a *little* out and got her make up done at MAC to prep for this summer shoot. Elvin and Stephanie's Wedding at the Fox Hollow was definitely a great memory. The groom was running around preparing every detail to make the wedding just perfect, while the bride was in her room touching up her make up and breathing deep breathes of nervousness. The excitement even gave me the wedding jitters.

You know you're surrounded by love when the bride and groom smile at each other...and passes on that true sense of commitment. Life is not perfect, but the bonding between two during a day like this proves that they can encompass any problems or obstacles in life. On a personal note, that's what my dad told me. The test to see whether a marriage will last is if they can deal with any problem, and to see if they can find peace between each other. Any agree?

Anyways, small family wedding. Very intimate and enjoyable. I think what they had for the cake was a tres leche cake? That was yummy.. And Stephanie was definitely a gorgeous bride. Oh, and thank you Jerome for assisting me. You did a great job, and it'll be hard to find a skillful replacement. Anyone want to apprentice?

Christa and Ben's Wedding

This was my first wedding (as the primary) in a vineyard-- Lu Mil Vineyard to be specific. It's about 45 minutes away from Fayetteville. It's a great location for weddings and events--I'd recommend other brides to look into this location.

Ben and Christa got married here on May 1, 2010. It was hot! Luckily, everything was done on time and we had that extra 30 minutes to squeeze in some alone time with the bride and groom for some formal portraits. Those extra 30 minutes during sunset makes the photographer so much more happier!

Wedding highlight? During the reception the bride and bridesmaids even had a dance--it was pretty sweet.

Sorry, sorry-- I know, it's been a while since the last blog. I've been busy shooting and my two nieces (Phoebe-4 and Hayley-2) came to visit for a whole month. However, that's no excuse to let you out of the loop. I promise-- a lot more blogs are coming up soon.

This was an early-riser session. Normally I don't wake up early, but I would for the sake of taking better photos. Ashley and Harry are a reserved couple--kind hearted and sweet. December ended with Amanda and Nick's wedding at the Belmont Village. It was a very festive wedding. Amanda was probably one of the most happiest brides I've seen. The cat that has been living outside of our door for the past two years had 4 kittens. They are so adorable! If you would like a kitten, or know anyone who would like any of these kittens, just contact me or give me a call: angelitaphoto@gmail.com or 904-401-7605. The animal shelter is too full and too busy to give attention to these poor, cute, adorable kittens. All these photos were taken today, May 19, 2010 while they were in our backyard. Get them while they're still young and cute..and help us avoid them to further multiply.

May's Tidbit-- this weekend and what's to come.

I was on the way from Fayetteville to Jacksonville on the Amtrak reading the Professional Photographers magazine. It talked about blogging, and says that it's okay to talk about personal and professional topics. I guess I first need to learn to blog regularly AND THEN put that into use.

Anyways, it was a long way to a special meeting I had in Orlando. Using the Amtrak is actually not that bad despite what many might believe. The train leaves at 1 am from Fayetteville, NC and goes all the way to Jacksonville, FL. My ticket costed $45 dollars per way with my AAA. Not bad at all. That's way less than what you would spend on gasoline and car costs. You also get to go to sleep on the train, recline your seat, and raise the leg rest. It's sort of like an airplane except you get more space and flexibility.

I should be on my way home soon. Home is waiting for me-boxes of photos to ship out and photos to edit. I promise, you'll get your photos soon. I also wonder what the next two weeks will be like...2 weekends, 4 weddings...here we go. Wish me luck.

Here is a blog of random thoughts...sometimes I like using a few new spots. Afterall, Fayetteville is a really small town and a place that is sort of limited to locations. Thank goodness Ron and Amber came really classy to the shoot-- they dressed really well. It's always good to bring 2-3 outfits for a session to give variety. I can't wait to do their wedding coming up this summer. It's going to be great!

Chanel's Pre-prom

Beware, this is not my ordinary blog post. You'll be hearing my voice about the business and my love for photography.

As usual, this was a last minute photoshoot after Chanel had her makeup done at the Flawless Visions Salon with Carmen. On days that I give myself off, I sometimes get bored (Yes, I do get bored, too) and tend to want to take pictures, again. However, I do so for recreation. It's nice to take pictures without worrying about having to edit a whole lot of them. In the business world of photography, Shooting the photo takes about 20% of the whole production time. The remaining 80% are the countless hours on a desk, stuck in front of a computer fine-tuning the photograph.

Oh, how I love to snap that camera. Oh, how I dread the countless hours of editing. I just can't help but edit, either. When I see that raw photograph in front of my screen, I just see all the possibilities. I just have to touch it and tweak it. To the best of my ability, I try not to go crazy with my photographs. Close to natural or even natural is the best. I try to make the skin look natural--not plastic, not a barbie doll, not a face made out of foundation powder.

Photo to Tatoo

How often does your photograph get turned into a tattoo? Just a while ago, I found out that Melissa's husband tattood the boudoir photo onto his arm. A PERMANENT tatoo. That's too cool-- to have a work of art displayed on someone permanently. I guess whenever he or she looks at that, they will be reminded of the photographer.

If anyone else wishes to advertise my work on a body-part, feel free to do so. It would be my honor. Just don't forget to give me credit if someone asks. And of course, pick a trustworthy tattoo artist like this one.

Airport Photoshoot

While I was editing these photos, I couldn't help but giggle. Blayne had so many different expressions in these photographs that going through these photos was almost like watching an animation. Their little dog, Sid, was also one of a kind...he followed them everywhere we went and posed in the photos just like any other member of the family. He was just so cute and surprisingly easy to position.

I am writing this blog a day before her wedding-- I didn't want the groom to see it before the actual day. You're reading this after I have just clicked the "publish" button. That's how excited I am to show you these photos. To be honest, this is one of the first few bridal sessions I have done. The location is at the Fox Hollow Designs in Fayetteville, NC taken about a month ago. Fabiola really spiced it up with a beautiful gown and makeup by Carmen Johnson. The flowers in the garden weren't out yet, but on the wedding day, you'll probably see them-- it will be beautiful.

Since the weather started warming up, I photographed plenty of families this month. It's really an experience getting to know these different personalities-new, fun, challenging, but at the same time exciting. I believe what makes a child's photo the best is when they are giggling, laughing out loud, or screaming with joy-- that's what I found with these families.

Kevin and Arlene's Wedding

Such a sweet couple. They were the first to include me in their dedication speech at the wedding. I photographed their engagement session, and here are their wedding photos. This was a small but very very intimate wedding. They had about 20-30 guests. After the wedding we headed to downtown Fayetteville for about half an hour. It was freezing cold, but these photos were definitely worth the walk!

So many people keep on asking me what this product looks like. Well, these are the 32page / 40 page 10x10 lay flat books. They have a canvas photo cover with a photo on the front and back. Brittany and Scott's Couples Pictures

I don't think I'd be a happy photographer if I did not take engagement and couple's photographs. Scott just came home a few days before we had this little couple's photo session. They are so in love--and the photographs prove it. Brittany couldn't stop smiling, either. If you were there, you could have also seen what I saw: happiness flying in the air. And boy, happiness is contagious. I was lucky to have Jerome photograph this session with me.

Arlene and Kevin's Engagement Photo Session

Posted these on facebook around last week. Arlene and Kevin just got married last week. It was a small but intimate wedding. There were definitely a lot of tears. Enough about their wedding-- I gotta say this was the most enjoyable photosession I've done. Next time, I'll do it this way again: candid, unposed, natural, and witty (with some smooching).

February Boudoir 2010

Shooting women straight for 2 days. This is a rare occassion. It has never been like this in my life. Boy, I was tired, but it was well worth it and the ladies all have something nice to send off to their hubbies & etc. Thank you for the few ladies that gave me permission to show off their beauty. Here are the work done by Audrelle (I hope I spelled it right!) and Carmen from the Flawless Visions Salon. They did a good job on their hair and make up.

Not sure when the next event is. If I get a lot of ladies asking, I might just do another one this month (or next).

I always had this idea of taking photos of girls in mud. Women don't need to show their beauty by always being spick and span clean (heavy make-up, manicure, pedicure, clean hair). Often times beauty is portrayed by what's natural--and sometimes even nature. In this photosession, we went from glamorous to muddy. Literally.

This photoshoot is of Andrea. I used to work with her taking photos of children and families. Dedicated to her hubby, she wanted him to come home from his deployment to a little surprise. Yes, he did.

18 Days in the Philippines

As most of you know, I was finally able to go back to the Philippines after 10 years. I sort of knew what to expect for my visit, but there are a few that have changed since. For instance, there are more buildings, no more left turns/only u-turns, a 750 peso airport fee to get back home, Manny Pacquiao on almost every other commercial, and of course, more SM's (Shoe Mart) and malls.

On this vacation, I only brought my Sony Cybershot:

I'd rather be safe than sorry. There are a lot of pick-pocketers there. They are professional, and you will not know when they take things out of your bag. So, yes, I suffered 18 days without my pro-camera that I wished I had brought with me on this trip. You will notice that the next few photographs are, indeed, by this Sony Cyber-shot.

This is the view from the airport on the way from Atlanta to Michigan.

View from the balcony of my aunt's house. This was the first view I had of the Philippines during daytime. We arrived at the airport around 1 am, so I couldn't really see what was around me on our way to this house. If you look closely, you can see the steeple to my church.

I found this in one of the rooms. This is my old Lucy Locket, a giant Polly Pocket. I loved this toy and received it on my 10th birthday when my family and I still lived in Germany.

The Barrio next to my Aunt's house in Pililia, Philippines.

I know--not a very pleasant scene. However, this is what you see in the most common places and provinces of the Philippines. If you look to your right, you can see my Grandma's chickens. She loved those chicken. When she came to visit my mom and I in Pililia, she kept on talking about how worried she was about these chickens.

On a tricycle. You'll be amazed how many people can fit on this vehicle. 5? Maybe more? Typical rate is about 10-25 pesos for a 5 minute drive. That's about a 22-45 cent ride.

Wedding I attended in Nasugbu Tagaytay of an old friend since I lived in Atlanta, GA. Grand ceremony decor of the Philippines-- one thing you can't beat. Sony cyber-shots do take good photos once in a while. Or maybe it's the photographer?

This is a beautiful view of Tagaytay. This is the first time I visited this place. I thought the whole Philippines is hot, but here you can wear a sweater!

I got my hair straightened with Shiseido! From now on, I'll have a good hair day, everyday!

I just had to take a photo with the Philippine pride and World Champ Boxer, Manny Pacquaio.

This is my cousin driving. The girl looking through the window is trying to sell us cleaning rags. I was approached by beggars at least a dozen times. It's hard to disguise oneself as a foreigner there. I even brought all my dirt old cheap clothes, but I didn't pull it off.

On our way home, I bought a shrimp tempura udon at the Narita, Japan airport. It was huge! The workers work so hard there, that while I was wiping my mouth they already cleaned up my bowl. The waitress was so fast that I would not be able to chase her back and tell her that I was not done with my food, yet.

Other characteristics that are different there:

Almost all people have prepaid phones. At every store you can find the display "Load na dito", meaning "Come on, load here".

When you are at the fish market, you can buy all sorts of drinks. One thing they ask you when you buy a drink is if you want plastic (literally, a plastic drinking bag with a straw) or cup.

When you go to the malls there, you will not find any garbage cans (except in the bathroom). However, you will find a lot of people cleaning up after you.

During my visit, I was attacked by mosquitos. I'm their mosquito candy. I had spray, OFF candles, everything! They still manage to sneak through.

Also, every morning from about 6 to 9am, a boy usually walks around the streets to sell "taho". It is a sweet soy based breakfast treat. If you ever happen to go there, this is something you should try. You'll know when he comes, they usually scream "taho" as they walk the roads and stop right in front of your house.

Now, I'm back home and back to reality. Editing, photographing, and booking. Call me up for a date!

I'm proud to announce that I will soon be upgrading to a full-frame camera. I bet those who understand what I mean are surprised that I'm finally heading into this direction. It will completely take all the money I made from 2009, but I know it will be so worth it, and it will definitely provide my customers with better-quality photographs.

The New Years Eve Photosession

Just kidding. Who would want to take pictures on new years eve? So, Jerome and I went to the lake and photographed the ducks. Everyone's got to have ducks pictures. I bet you have some too from your visit to the lake or to the zoo. It was freezing, chilly, and sprinkling rain outside, but I enjoyed throwing the bread and watching the ducks swim towards it. Just as I came out of the car, the swarm of ducks came "quacking" towards me. It was a funny picture...well enjoy these new years eve "snapshots":

The family consists of Jerry, Julie, Madeline, Noah, and Jerica. I hope I spelled their names right. Forgive me if I did! Jerry just came home for a bit from his deployment with another lifestyle, at-home photosession. Gotta do it...it's way too cold outside, but I still love outdoor photography! Angel's Pictures

Finally had the honors of pictures for Angel. And I got to say, it ain't easy taking pictures in a 45 degree weather. It was cold out there! I had to keep my hands in my pockets. Not related to the topic, I'm eating Roasted Chicken while typing this blog. Sister Vivianne gave it to us along with a whole bunch of "pasalubong" that my parents will be bringing to our trip to the Philippines. I haven't been there in 10 years! I bet a lot has changed. Yum...this chicken tastes good.

Anyways, I bet you're wondering who took these pictures. I'm giving all the credit to Jerome Esparar. He's quite a good helper and very good in photography. With his technical skills and my artistic ability, I was able to become the photographer I am today. He answered all the technical questions I had to photography. I get really lucky when I get him to photograph a wedding or even a photosession with him.

Jack and Alecia's Engagement Session

I just watched the movie Julie/Julia (or was it Julia/Julie ?) One of those. I should really write in my blog more often. Do you think it's possible to write here everyday for a year? That would be a big challenge. At least once a week-- that's a good deal. Maybe twice? If you have any questions, I'll be glad to answer them here. Perhaps you can pitch in a few topics you'd like me to talk about or something you would like to learn about me. I was thinking about making chapters of "Tidbits about Ms. Angel, the Photographer".

Anyways, this blog is about Jack and Alecia. Alecia emailed me a couple of months ago to make sure I got a slot for her. Such a sweet girl. It's always exciting to hear/read the phrase "we're fun, and willing to do anything you want us to do". Things couldn't be any easier.

Alecia is studying to be a Nurse in Texas. She's graduating and will be taking her Nursing Exam next year. Afterwards, she'll be moving here to the little town of Fayetteville, NC to marry her sweetheart Jack who is in the military.

I wanted to do something new for this session. Actually, from now on I'll try to always do something new and unique for every session. For this engagement session, I evolved around 'Shooting Through'....

Melissa's Night Time Photosession

Definitely a great person to photograph! She's very photogenic, sexy, and just has that look for the camera. During this photoshoot, we actually had cars slow down. Since it is the holiday season and all the lights are up, we believed it was a good idea to start some nightime photosessions. Melissa was the first to take it. And yes, it was freezing cold, but she did it for the sake of photography!

I just wanted to mention that during these busy times, I really really appreciate those who honor my work and compensate for what they believe in me. It's one thing to set value on myself, and it's another one to honor it. I'm thanking you for your great generosity and allowing me to capture those special moments in your life.

McLovin & Lindsey

Actually, their names are James and Lindsey, but doesn't he remind you of McLovin from the movie Superbad? They were "high school sweet hearts". More specifically, they met when they worked at a grocery store after highschool and discovered they went to the same high school together. They are originally from New York, and that is where they are getting married.

I think I'm slowly gathering up my preferred styles. Before only color and black and white existed, and now there are so many different ways to make a RAW photograph look cool. I still can't decide what's ME, but hopefully my variety will appeal to a lot of potential clients. I look at a photograph, and test what way it will look it's best. I think I have an advantage. Why does professional photography cost so much?

"4 x 6 for $6 dollars? How many does it come with?" I get that question a lot.

              Why does custom photography cost so much? It has a lot to do with time, the cost of the equipment in comparison to its usable timeframe, and the cost to maintain a valid business. In addition, the quality of the photograph and the artistic vision plays a vital role. Artistic vision of photography is not a gift. It is something obtained through practice, time, money, and countless hours spent on studying your competitors. If a photographer didn't go to school for it, he or she probably followed a photographer around and spent money on gas, equipment, and many many gratis hours proofing images and helping out a more experienced photographer to gain their own experience.

   Sure, you can go to X or Y store and get a glossy photograph for 19 cents, and sometimes $5 dollars for 50 4 x 6's.

   Please allow me to be straight with you. I think my prices are very reasonable. It's right above chain-market photography services, but it is WAY below those higher priced photographers charging $200+ for their sitting fees alone. More established businesses are probably angry at me for keeping my prices so low and still providing similar quality photographs as theirs. My 4x6's aren't $15. My 8 x 10's are not $50, but am I slowly working towards that price range.

A lot of people are asking if I am doing well with my business. Am I making a lot? I am making a decent amount of money. Actually, I am breaking even with what I spent to maintain my business and provide my clients with quality photographs. I've been wanting to buy a new Apple Touch or iPhone all year to keep my appointments and photo sessions properly organized, but I still use my little book in my purse to carry around with me. It works, but I am trying to explain how I haven't bought anything for myself all year. I also need boots for the winter to go to church, because it's so cold here in North Carolina (I moved from Florida). However, I did not get any of those, yet-- that's how my business is breaking even with what I make. I even decided to buy an easel to display my client's portraits ($140) before getting boots.

Anyways, back to about why custom photography is so expensive. My current sitting fee is $75 for two hours at the location of your choice. $37.5 dollars per hour! That's more than what a dental hygienist makes! Unfortunately, that's not how much I really make.

The $$$$ of time.

Let's break it down. Imagine you hired a professional photographer to take your family portraits. He or she charges $75 dollars for a photo session upto 2 hours. The location you chose is approximately 30 minutes away from their home. Here is a breakdown of time we ACTUALLY spend for one client:

30 min - 1 hour. Session preparation: Confirming session, answering questions, and communicating with client via e-mail or phone. Equipment check up, formatting cards, cleaning lenses, and charging batteries. Occassionaly, ironing appropriate session clothing.
45 min. Leaving early so you're not late to the session and travel & traffic time
15-30 minutes prep time at client’s home
90 minutes-2 hours with client photographing subject (often more than 2 hours)
30 min travel time FROM session
30-45 min transferring photos from camera to computer and taking equipment out of your car so it does not get broken into
30-45 minutes time spent backing up the original images in case of emergency
2-5 hours editing time to present your clients with a diverse gallery of edited images
1 hour uploading proofs to an online gallery
1 hour proofing images with client
1 hour sorting through hundreds of photos and separating clients selections
3-4 hours going through print purchases and removing client's blemishes or other distractions in the photographs
30 minutes-1 hour ordering your prints through the professional print companies
30 minutes-1 hour checking if your prints are good and getting order shipped
any additional phone time or time needed for add on ordering, shipment issues, quality issues

So, technically, you're not paying for 2hrs. You're paying for 13.5hrs-20.25hrs of work. Wow! I make less than minimum wage.

Another factor that influences the cost, the business:

On average, a photographer spends $5,000 - $30,000 dollars on equipment alone. $5,000 is the minimum to get the least amount of needed equipment, but it is not the best equipment. Aside from that, business tax fees, licenses, paying hundreds or even thousands of dollars promoting the business so that YOU can find us. That includes the website we use, the business cards we hand out, and even the galleries we fill your wedding photos with. Don't forget about the car I use to get to you -- or wherever your wedding is. I think I paid over 1K for less than the past 6 months for registration, tax fee, and soon insurance.

A good photographer also provides quality products. We also spend hundreds or even thousands of dollars on products so that you can assure that it will be a good one. The list is endless: Computer, programs and applications, plug-ins, studio rental, miscellaneous fees, and more ( I don't want to reveal my secrets!). That's another couple of thousands. Let's not go too deep into it, you probably have an idea.

Nik Naks and the other stuff:

As a consumer, you are surely looking for a good deal. $3.99 for 2-5'x7's or 8 wallets..or maybe an 8 x 10 for $9.99. It is basic-- mall and department store photography services don't make money off of their coupon prints, but they make money out of the volume of customers. Also, keep in mind that you will not have the 1:1 customer service. We communicate with you, meet with you for a consultation prior to your session, and even go to your house! Your child can run around freely in their home without any restriction, and you'll get more than a plain backdrop and less pressure from the short 10 minute sitting time. Take this into consideration when choosing your photographer. It's more than the product. Sure, you'll get great prints, but you'll also remember your experience when you look at those prints or the photograph on your laptop screen.

So why are prints so expensive? Because of everything listed above. When you order a print with us, we go through your photograph again and work on it for an average of 30min. per file-- perfecting it and adding our signature quality. Is $6.00 ridiculous? Yes, I think so. You're basically paying for the labor I am spending on it and not the fact that it's a piece of art. Expect a gradual price increase.

Another discussion: My $169 disc price for up to 100 files with print rights. I should make it $169 for 10 files, but I like being nice to my customers and military members. Since I live in a military town, I would like to suite my prices for them. Even if it's just 10 files, it's still $169 (thus the "UP TO"). Why?

If you're going to order a cake, don't just get the slice. Bring the whole cake. I already spent 4-5 hours editing them. So basically, it's like I'm giving you a work of art for $1.50 for a beautiful photograph.

The disc comes with dozens of different kinds of photographs. If you order prints, you'll get that crisp file on the disc as well. The rest are for laughs, if you change your mind about one style and prefer another style, and photos you think your parents will love. Basically, I'm giving you 50-70 for free.

I think I spoke my photographic heart out. I hope this doesn't offend anybody, but it is a necessary topic that many photographers wish to convey. I love my customers. Charlene

I wasn't quite sure what to expect, but I like going to a photoshoot with a challenge and creating new ideas. Charlene is such an enthusiastic, and allow me to emphasize, really sculpted woman! We've been shooting emails back and forth for the past 2 months, and we finally had the opportunity to meet and take pictures.

She is happily married and has two children-- one 12 year old and a 16 month old (or was that 18 mo.?) . Eitherway, look at her pictures below, and come back to reading this blog. I know! Amazing. She surely does an amazing job, and I'm sure she works out really hard! Her home was amazing. when you walk through the doors, the rooms all blend in with each other. She loves the ocean and decorated her home bright colors and blends of blues. I loved it! Her baby boy was so cute, too. He has short curly hair, and he cried when I left the room. They also had a kitten who took a nap on my lap while we were proofing the photos. So sweet...

Another blessed day of photography

I am really grateful for all the wonderful clients I have. They love photography, I love photography, and we all get along! Yesterday I had the opportunity to photograph Jessica, her husband Josh, and her two dogs Bonzie and Diesel. These were taken at the Clark Park off of Ramsey St. Jessica works in an ophthalmology office and will one day become a Physical Therapist, if I remember correctly. Josh will soon be deployed. They both are from a small town in California and "high school sweethearts". Of course, their two dogs are an exciting pair as well!

Danielle and Liam Part 1

So, I started editing the wedding photos from Danielle and Liam's wedding today thinking that I didn't get the ring shot I wanted. But I did a few tricks and turned something into something else. You won't believe what my backdrop was! An Air vent! Yes, and airvent. There are so many other photos that I want to post. Allow me to make a part one and a part two. This is part one.

Dan and Tina

Now, how often do you get an opportunity to photograph wedding formals for 4 hours anywhere you want to (with permission, of course!)? That's what I and George did with Dan and Tina. We photographed them at the Fayetteville Botanical Gardens, and the Cross Creek Fountain, and the Market circle, and at the Prince Charles. It was pretty cool, and Dan and Tina were so funny. It's hard to get them to look at each other without a kiss. Oh how wonderful it would be if every wedding had hours of just bride and groom time. I bet they'd like it, too!

Felisha's Headshots

So, I was lucky to get to photograph Felisha again. She needed some headshots to give to modeling/acting agents. I'm sure she'll make it through! Watch out, here she comes!

She was looking for something as natural as possible, so I turned my flash off and resorted to pure natural lighting and my favorite long lens. Thank God for the friend she brought along, who by the way, had some real reflector-holding skills. Kudos!

This session was so much fun..and my favorite word, SUCCESSFUL. I could do one or two of these everyday and be completely satisfied. Below are a few. I'll definitely add on a few more when I get some time..

Jeremy and Demetria Wedding

Jeremy and Demetria--

Ceremony took place in Raeford, NC, and the reception took place at the Holiday in Bordeaux. Demetria is such a pretty bride-- she always smiled a very beautiful one as well. Should've seen her flower girl! She was smiling all over the place. I wished all flower girls were like her. She could enter modeling. I just had to point my camera at the little girl, and she stood poised with a smile ready for the photo. I asked her how old she is, she counted to three -- three years old! It seemed like she did the flower girl role atleast 10 times! She did such a great job and made it easy for George as well. Kudos to George who I photographed with; he set up a bridal party of 20+ for formal photos.

When they opened up the doors for Demetria to come walking down the isle, Jeremy's face lit up; One of the most priceless expressions you can see. The officiant started fanning him and the audience giggled silently. Little moments like these make the day big. The bride and the groom also grooved the dancefloor. Check it out:

Nina

Today I was able to work with make up artist Carmen Johnson and Hair stylist Teresa Simmons. They are both very talented artists and a great team as well. Of course, I should mention Nina. She did everything perfectly. Not to mention her poise and perfect look. I tried a few shots with my softbox as well as a backlight on my new gray paper backdrop. I really like the paper backdrop. I think that's what I'll be using from now on for individual photosessions.

The Doghouse Bar and Grill Girls

So-- I don't have the exact words to describe this photosession. They're very pretty, they dance, and they're at the Doghouse Bar and Grill off of Owen Drive. I definitely had fun with this session trying to capture each of their personalities in differen ways. Oh, and this is also the first time I used my softbox. Way to go! Out of all the places and spaces and clean backdrops, I use the bar. I'm quite pleased though and hoping to work with some more ladies out there for glamour, boudoir, and pin- up photosessions. It's quite pleasing what backdrop you can get out of a normal day to day environment.

The Untouchables

So, I was able to photograph an event at "The Untoucables" barber salon off of S. Reilly Rd. They were offering free haircuts to school kids as a back to school event. Pretty cool. They were friendly. They even had doughnuts and a radio crew to entertain the guests while they were waiting for their turns. It was soo packed, and the staff was working really hard to help the kids out. Kudos!

Speaking of haircuts, I really need one.

Danielle and Jonathan's Engagement Session

Have I told you how much I enjoy Engagement sessions? Teasing couples with the "almost kiss" and making them carry the future bride on the piggy back. Danielle is a Biology teacher and Jonathan is a PK (Preacher's Kid) just like me. I'm glad I'm photographing their wedding in December because they're such a lovely couple..and as usual..willing to do anything for a beautiful picture! thanks guys! I should really blog more often. Remember those xanga days when people used to go on there like they go on facebook today? It'll be a way to describe myself and my photo experiences to you more often...as well as a way to make you feel more comfortable with your photo session :D (<<<---- I like to use the smiley face, a lot, because I tend to smile and laugh a lot...because I'm happy! Well, lets start out with you can call me Angel. (Some people don't even know my name is "Angelita". I've started to love photography at an early age. I believe, during my freshman year of high school when I babysitted this cute girl, Janelle, I snapped away with my 1.8mm pentax film camera. Here's a preview:

I think now she's 8 years old. Wow, its been a while! Aside the typical photo talk, I went to eat sushi today with my parents at Sushi Court. Based on the other 5 Japanese restaurants I tried out here in Fayetteville, NC, I think they are my favorite. They have some good shrimp/yummy/white sauce. They should really give that sauce a definite term. Right next door a new frozen yogurt place opened up. Its similar to Mochi's in Jacksonville. They have various flavors including vanilla, mango, green tea, and peach..and you can add fresh fruits on top of it! It's great..you should really try it out. It's next to Sushi Court at the shopping plaza off of Morgantan Rd. and McPherson Church Rd.

Back to my photo talk. I finally pushed myself into buying a new soft box studio light from Alienbees. I'm sure it'll be a good investment and will also give me more control during my at-home photosessions. I'm scheduling to promote more at- home newborn and glamour/boudoir sessions. Who's interested? I got a lot of vent up creativity in me.

Elsa and Carlos

Photographed in Hope Mills. Hmm. What can I say about them? I always seem to have photosessions with great people. I can define this as one of my favorite sessions. First we took some photos at their church, and afterwards we headed out to a small dock on the lake.

Carlos is so funny. He had this really joyful expression when I told him it's time for me to take his picture. Elsa was very pleasant as well. They were both great! Willing to do anything for a great photo. Above are a few photos...and a few more are to be listed on my website..

William and Kendra's Wedding

About a week before the wedding, the forecast said it would rain. I checked the percentage every single day ..moving from 60% all the way down to 10% 2 hours before the wedding. God was so kind to help me out and to provide a beautiful weather.

The day started out great! Kendra prepared in a suite at the Holiday Inn hotel with beautiful lighting. It was just the right setting any photographer would ask for. Kendra, too, was an ideal bride. She has such a cheerful and cooperative personality.

Yarelis

I wasn't quite certain what to expect out of this session. Omayra, the mother of Yarelis, scheduled this session 2 months ahead! Pressure was put on me because of the importance set upon this appointment. However, when I saw Yarelis, I knew I couldn't go wrong. Her portrait session was for her Quinceanera, a common celebration of a 15 year old latin young lady.

She lived in Sweden and Colorado. She's beautiful. What else can you wish for? I'm such a lucky person to met a girl like her and to have the honors of taking her pictures. She was so open minded and creative...and from any angle she made a good picture!!

Baby Chloe

Fun with Joseph and Heather

So,...I had absolutely no reason to be nervous the night of Friday. The photo session with Joseph and Heather went excellent! I had so much fun. They are such a fun and loving LOVING couple. I told Heather to pop her leg, and Jo did, too! Such following subjects! What else can I ask for. I hope the next couple I photograph will be just as fun :D

This portrait session was really an experience. I had a good model with some really interesting poses that created unique photographs. Our time was crunched, but we surprisingly created a really nice amount of beautiful photographs. The session took place in Clark park as well as Downtown Fayetteville.
